Double page spread analysis - Big cheese

Typography
In this double page spread, Big Cheese have used serif font. This is to emphasise the genre of the magazine which is rock/metal. Also the serif font indicates that they are aiming for a slightly older audience than its competitors such as Kerrang. The title of the article is not written in capitals which gives the magazine a more relaxed feel and not so in your face as a Kerrang or NME article.

Layout
The image on this double page spread is very large and takes up the entire verso and half of the recto. This leaves very little room for the main article and therefore they have had to make the font smaller for the whole article to fit in which also makes the article harder to read and is therefore not ideal. The title of the article is placed in a very unusual spot, along the bottom of the page. This is so that the whole page doesn’t seem as though it is in your face, you have to scan down the page before you know what the article is about.

Colours
The colours of this double page spread are very dark which gives the pages an old fashioned feel to them and that they are aiming for a older target audience. Despite the use of dark colours, the colours contrast well in terms of the text, they have used white and red to go over a black background which makes the text easier to read even though the text is small. The use of dark colour also relates to the genre of the magazine which is rock/metal. Rock and metal bands tend to wear dark clothes and have dark hair so the colours of these pages relate to that.

Images
The main image in this double page is very large. This is to emphasise that the article is about them. The way the band members are positioned and posing pictures give the article a more relaxed feel to it rather than in your face like other rock/metal magazines. They have used a long shot in this image so they can fit all the band members in. The background in the image makes the band members stand out as they are wearing dark clothes.

Mode of address
The mode of address in this double page spread comes across as formal. This is indicated with the type of font they use and layout of the page. They use serif font which gives it an old fashioned feel which shows that they are aiming for an older audience than the their competitors. The layout of the page shows that the pages are not all in your face like a Kerrang article; instead it is a more laid back layout.
